Seeing a colleague with a flat tire on the road prompts me to share a few thoughts on emergency kits that we should carry all the time.Handy Auto Emergency Kits
- Flat tires
Instead of changing a flat, which requires too much strength and effort,
I would put a Fix-a-Flat on every car. The size of a can of hair spray, it would enable you to fix the flat and drive for a few days, enough to get you to a satisfactory service station.
- Frozen or ice-covered windshield
Instead of scraping ice off in the freezing weather, I would carry a can of De-Icer on the car for such a situation. The size of a can of hair spray, you just spray the stuff onto your car window, and the ice melts within 30 seconds.
- Dead Battery
I don't bother to carry jumper cables (too bulky), or the portable battery chargers (as used in many Mall Securities). The chances of you getting stranded in the middle of nowhere with a dead battery is tiny. You will most likely leave your car lights on when you are at work or shopping. So you can always go to the security to get such a charger, or to ask someone else to help jump-start your car.
